Atiku Abubakar (Turaki Adamawa) is a popular politician, business man and philanthropist in Nigeria. The former Nigerian vice-president is said to be one of the richest Nigerians. Atiku began his career as an Officer of the Nigerian Custom and Excise duties in 1969 after which he is said to have gone into real estate.

Atiku Abubakar became Nigeria’s Vice-President in 1999 after he won the Gubernatorial election in Adamawa State in 1998 but was courted by the presidential candidate, Olusegun Obasanjo to become his running mate.

Atiku is from Adamawa State, formerly Gongola State in Northern Nigeria. He is one of the most prominent and ever present politicians in Nigeria.

Atiku Abubakar released a breif biography titled ”My Life” In 2013 giving a detailed story of his life from childhood to his present political and business stance. In his book, Atiku Abubakar stated

”I have always had a passion for education. In 1988, my second wife, Ladi and I registered a limited liability company called ABTI-ZARHAM (formed from the first letters of the names of our children: Abba and Atiku Jnr = ABTI and Zainab, Rukaiya, Hauwa and Maryam = ZARHAM). We established ABTI Nursery and Primary School in Yola in 1992. We later set up ABTI Academy, an elite high school with boarding facilities modeled after the British public school. It was followed by ABTI-American University (now American University of Nigeria, Yola). It provides American-style university education to students. Nothing gives me more joy and fulfillment in life than my modest contributions to the improvement of education in Nigeria”
